Information:
Muddy Waters (real name: McKinley Morganfield) wrote and recorded Got My Mojo Working (Chess 1652) in 1957. However, his version did not chart. The big hit was Jimmy Smith’s 1966 instrumental release on Verve Records (Verve 10393), which peaked at #51 on the rhythm & blues chart. A “mojo” is a voodoo charm used to enhance sexual ability. Other mojo-titled recordings by various artists include Mojo Hand, Mojo Strut and Mojo Blues. 

Elvis recorded Got My Mojo Working in a studio jam session (paired with Keep Your Hands Off It) on June 5, 1970, at RCA’s Nashville studios. For some reason, the Love Letters From Elvis LP listed Preston Foster as the composer of Got My Mojo Working.
