I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine

download

(David)

Information:
I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine was written by Mack David in 1949 for the Walt Disney animated film Cinderella. It was not used, however. In 1950, several versions of the song were released. Perhaps the first was Patti Page's (Mercury 5296). Others soon followed, including those by LeRoy Holmes (MGM 10685) and Dean Martin (Capitol 981). In 1951 Georgia Gibbs had a popular version of I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine on Coral Records (Coral 60210).

Elvis recorded I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine on September 10, 1954, at Sun Records. Marion Keisker added a verse to Elvis's version and Buddy Cunningham played drums (actually, an empty record box). He's never been credited on the session.

When Elvis signed with RCA Records in November 1955, RCA reissued all five of his Sun singles. On the strength of its appearance on the EP Any Way You Want Me, I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine reached #74 on Billboard's Top 100 chart in October 1956, staying on the chart for six weeks.

Lyrics:

Well, I don't care if the sun don't shine

I get my lovin' in the evening time when I'm with my baby
Well, it ain't no fun with the sun around
I get going when the sun goes down when I'm with my baby

1. Well, that's when we're gonna kiss and kiss and kiss and kiss, and we're gonna kiss some more
Who cares how many times we kiss, 'cause at a time like this, who keeps score?
Well, I don't care if the sun don't shine, I get my lovin' in the evening time
When I meet my baby

1. (repeat)

And it don't matter if it's sleet or snow, the drive-in's cosy when the lights are low
And I'm with my baby
Makes no difference if the rain comes down, I don't notice it when she's around
Oh boy, what a baby!

2. Well, that's when we're gonna kiss and kiss and kiss and kiss and we're gonna kiss some more
Well, one kiss from my baby doll makes me hot, more more more more
Well, I don't care if the sun don't shine, I get my loving in the evening time
When I'm with my baby

2. (repeat)
