Nearer My God to Thee
download
(Adams
/ Mason)
Information:
This song mixes old excerpts of religious verses, as well as
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (a 1922 hymn by Helen
Lemmel and Harry Clarke), sung in a medley. Nearer My God to Thee is a song
of 1840 by Sarah Fuller Adams and Lowell Mason. In these performances,
released for the first time in 1994, we can hear J.D. Sumner doing his
special endings for Elvis. At the end of this song in particular, we can
hear Elvis saying, "I was singing bass, but he covered me up. He wind me
up."
This song was taped on 31 March 1972 at RCA's
studios in Hollywood.
Lyrics:
Nearer my God to thee
Nearer to thee
E'en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my

Nearer my God to thee
Nearer my God to thee
Nearer my God to thee
Nearer to thee
