Poor Boy

download

(Matson / Presley)

Information:
Elvis sang Poor Boy in his first film,
Love Me Tender. Although Elvis and Vera Matson are credited with writing Poor Boy, it was actually written by Matson's husband, Ken Darby, who was musical director for the film. The song was recorded by Elvis on August 2 or September 24, 1956 at Radio Recorders. The movie version had hand clapping and girls screaming. Based on its appearance in the EP Love Me Tender, Poor Boy reached #35 on Billboard's Top 100 chart and had an 11-week stay.

Lyrics:

1. They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I’ve got a dolly like you

Ain't got a crust, ain't got a cent
Can't buy a jug, can't pay the rent
I got a heart full of dreams and a lot of memories
And that's enough for me

1. (repeat)

Can't buy a house, can't buy a lot
Ain't got a bean, I ain't got a pot
But what I got is a heart full of love and memories
And that's enough for me

1. (repeat)

Don't have a pig, don't have a cow
I don't have a horse to pull a plow
But what I got is a heart full of love and memories
And that's enough for me

1. (repeat)
