Enquanto Otis Blackwell estava sentado nos escritórios da Shalimar Music, em 1956, Al Stanton, um dos proprietários da Shalimar, entrou a sacudir a sua garrafa de Pepsi Cola. Stanton disse a Blackwell, "Porque é que não escreves uma canção intitulada All Shook Up?" E foi o que Blackwell fez. Pelo menos dois artistas gravaram All Shook Up antes de Elvis. Tanto David Hill (Aladdin 3359) como Vicki Young (Capitol 3425) gravaram a canção em 1956. Elvis só gravaria a canção em 12 de janeiro de 1957, no Radio Recorders. Ao piano estava Dudley Brooks. O take 10 foi o escolhido para lançar pela RCA. All Shook Up entrou na tabela Top 100 da Billboard para a 25ª posição. Na terceira semana de permanência na tabela, já era número 1, substituindo Round And Round, de Perry Como. All Shook Up passou 8 semanas seguidas em 1º lugar antes de ser destronada por Love Letters In The Sand, de Pat Boone. O total de permanência na tabela foram 30 semanas - o período mais longo para um single de Presley. Na tabela Country Best-Seller, All Shook Up chegou à 3ª posição. Chegou ao Nº 1 (durante uma semana) na tabela Country Juke Box e encabeçou a tabela de rhythm & blues durante 4 semanas. Na Inglaterra seria o primeiro single de Elvis a chegar a 1º lugar (onde ficou durante 7 semanas). A venda total de discos excedeu os dois milhões de exemplares. Elvis a cantar "Yeah, yeah" na letra inspirou John Lennon e Paul McCartney a acrescentar "Yeah, yeah, yeah" à canção She Loves You.

Elvis cantou All Shook Up no seu especial televisivo de 1968, Elvis, e no documentário de 1970, Elvis - That's The Way It Is. Em relação a este último, foi uma atuação que deu em agosto de 1970 no International Hotel, de Las Vegas.

Em 1974 Suzi Quatro entrou pela primeira vez nas tabelas com a sua rendição de All Shook Up (Bell 45477). A gravação chegou à 85ª posição na tabela Hot 100. Depois da morte de Elvis, em 1977, Otis Blackwell gravou um álbum intitulado These Are My Songs (Inner City 1032), que incluía a sua versão de All Shook Up.
