Down By The Riverside é uma velha canção tradicional que Bill Giant, Bernie Baum e Florence Kaye adaptaram para o filme de Elvis de 1966, Frankie and Johnny. Foi cantada em medley com When The Saints Go Marchin' In. A sessão de gravação teve lugar no Radio Recorders em maio de 1965. Em 1960 os Les Compagnons de La Chanson tiveram um êxito moderado (Nº 60 na Hot 100) com Down By The Riverside.

When The Saints Go Marchin' In era um velho hino fúnebre e clássico de jazz, de New Orleans, o compositor desconhecido. Ganhou popularidade em 1930 a partir de uma gravação da Decca por Louis Armstrong. Em 1956 Bill Haley and His Comets gravaram uma versão intitulada The Saints Rock'n'Roll (Decca 29870) que chegou à 18ª posição da tabela Top 100. Três anos mais tarde, Fats Domino teve um êxito moderado com When The Saints Go Marchin' In (Imperial 5569).

 

Tanto Down By The Riverside como When The Saints Go Marchin' In foram cantadas por Elvis durante a sessão do Million Dollar Quartet, em 4 de dezembro de 1956. Jerry Lee Lewis e Carl Perkins deram apoio vocal.
