Escrita por John Davenport (um pseudónimo para Otis Blackwell) e Eddie Cooley em 1956, Fever foi um disco que vendeu um milhão de exemplares, tanto para Little Willie John (King 4935) em 1956, como para Peggy Lee (Capitol 3998) em 1958. A gravação de John encimou a tabela de rhythm & blues, ao passo que a gravação de Lee chegou à 8ª posição na tabela Hot 100. Em finais de 1965 os McCoys ainda se saíram melhor, chegando à 7ª posição com a sua versão (Bang 511). Fever foi a canção que Juliet Prowse estava a cantar no Las Vegas Hilton em 1981 quando um deflagrou um incêndio, tendo o inferno morto oito pessoas. Ela parou de cantar e acalmou o público.

Elvis gravou Fever em 4 de abril de 1960, nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. Incluiu a canção no seu especial televisivo de 1973, Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii.
