Informação:
I Was the One foi escrita por Aaron Schroeder, Claude DeMetrius, Hal Blair e
Bill Pepper e gravada pela primeira vez por Elvis em 11 de janeiro de 1956,
nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. Gorden Stocker, Ben Speer e Brock Speer
disponibilizaram apoio vocal. Emparelhada com Heartbreak Hotel, I Was the
One foi o primeiro lançamento da RCA de material novo de Elvis. O single
teve uma permanência de 16 semanas na tabela Top 100 da Billboard,
chegando ao 23º lugar e alcançando o 11º lugar na tabela Country Disc
Jockey. Alcançaram-se vendas superiores a um milhão de exemplares. Elvis
cantou I Was The One na sua quarta apresentação no Stage Show (18 de
fevereiro de 1956) e durante a sua última apresentação no Louisiana
Hayride (16 de dezembro de 1956).
