Jerry Leiber e Mike Stoller escreveram Love Me em 1954 como uma música country de brincadeira. Têm dito que foi a pior canção que jamais escreveram. A primeira gravação de Love Me foi por Willie and Ruth (Spark 105) em 1954. Nesse mesmo ano, Georgia Gibbs também gravou a canção (Mercury 70473).

Elvis gravou Love Me em 1 de setembro de 1956 no Radio Recorders. O take 9 foi o escolhido para lançamento. Muito embora não tenha sido lançada em single, Love Me teve uma permanência de 19 semanas na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard, chegando ao 6º lugar, com base na sua apresentação no EP Elvis, Volume 1. Alcançou o 10º lugar nas tabelas Country Disc Jockey e Country Juke Box.

Elvis cantou Love Me no Ed Sullivan Show (28 de outubro de 1956) e no seu especial televisivo difundido mundialmente em 1973, Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii.
