Esta canção gospel foi escrita pelo Dr. C. H. Tindley, fundador da Igreja Metodista Tindley da Filadélfia (onde a cantor de blues, Bessie Smith, foi sepultada em 4 de outubro de 1937).

 

Elvis gravou Stand By Me em 26 de maio de 1966 nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville.
