The Eyes of Texas foi escrita por John L. Sinclair para um espetáculo de comediantes de 1903 baseado na melodia I've Been Working on the Railroad. Serve de canção de luta para a equipa de basebol University of Texas Longhorns. De cada vez que se consegue um home run no Astródomo do Texas, esta canção é tocada.

Elvis gravou o medley The Yellow Rose of Texas / The Eyes of Texas em julho de 1963 no Radio Recorders para o seu filme de 1964, Viva Las Vegas. Fred Wise e Ben Weisman adaptaram a letra para utilização no filme. The Eyes of Texas foi cantada no filme 1969,  The Trouble With Girls.
