Elvis gravou The Next Step is Love em 7 de junho de 1970 nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. A canção foi escrita por Paul Evans e Paul Parnes. No documentário de 1970, Elvis - That's The Way It Is, vemos Elvis a ensaiar The Next Step is Love na MGM para preparação da sua próxima temporada em Las Vegas. No entanto, a versão que saiu no álbum, é a gravação feita em estúdio. O lançamento em single passou nove semanas na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard, chegando ao 32º lugar. Saiu-se melhor na tabela Easy-Listening (Nº 5, durante 10 semanas). Uma permanência de seis semanas na tabela country resultou no 57º lugar.
