Informação:

Existe alguma disputa sobre quem é que na realidade escreveu/compôs esta canção. Oficialmente, Dave Bartholomew e Pearl King ficaram com os créditos. Mas Chuck Carbo dos Spiders disse que Bartholomew lhe trouxe a letra de Withcraft, mas sem música. E assim, Carbo diz que pegou na música do lançamento dos Spiders de 1953, I Didn't Want to Do It (Imperial 5265), que foi um êxito Nº 2 de rhythm & blues para eles. Seja como for, o lançamento original de Withcraft foi pelos Spiders e pela Imperial Records (Imperial 5366) em julho de 1955. A gravação deles chegou ao 7º lugar na tabela da Billboard de rhythm & blues.

 

Elvis gravou Withcraft em 26 de maio de 1963, nos estúdios da RCA em Nashville. O seu lançamento em single teve uma permanência de sete semanas na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard, chegando ao 32º lugar. Algumas fontes têm creditado Withcraft com um milhão de exemplares vendidos. Esta canção não se deve confundir com a canção de Frank Sinatra com o mesmo título.
