Information: Two previously unreleased songs - Danny and Britches - were highlighted on this third edition of the A Legendary Performer series. The album also contained unreleased alternate takes of Fame and Fortune, Frankfort Special and Guadalajara, as well as unreleased versions of It Hurts Me and Let Yourself Go from the Elvis TV special, and an unreleased live version of Let it Be Me from February 1970 at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. Four commercial recordings and an excerpt from the 1956 TV Guide interview completed the album. Elvis - A Legendary Performer, Volume 3 was originally issued with a 16-page booklet, "Yesterdays". The LP jacket had a die-cut window allowing the photo on the innersleeve to be seen.

Sales for Elvis - A Legendary Performer, Volume 3 exceeded $1 million and a Gold Record was certified by the RIAA on December 18, 1978. The album stayed on Billboard's Top LPs chart for 11 weeks, peaking at #113. A 15-week stay and a #10 position were achieved on the Hot Country LPs chart.
