Black Herringbone 2
is almost identical to the first one, but the lower part of
the chest opening is sewn together and the herringbone pattern reaches four
inches below the chest opening. This version of the Herringbone suit is
without a doubt the most known.
The pants that were
usually used with this top part of the outfit have red leg inserts from just
under the knee.
The two inches wide black
fabric belt was sometimes used for this suit. But usually a belt with red
horizontal stripes was used. It had the same herringbone pattern, with
approximately six inches long fringes at each end. The belt was tied around
the top part of the outfit.
A black scarf with red and
white stripes was usually used with Black Herringbone 2, also named
Black Cossak or Black Karate Style suit. This suit was often
used under this Las Vegas season. The top part of this outfit was also later
used with pants without the red leg insert. It was also used in private
flying from Las Vegas to Phoenix, September 9th, 1970, and when
he met President Nixon in the White House in December 21st, 1970.
Later it was used with the velvet jacket from 1968 TV Special. Black
Herringbone 2 suit can be seen on display at Graceland.
