Farther Along
download
(Stone)

Information:
Reverend W.B. Stone wrote Farther Along in 1937. Since that
time, the song was served as a standard for gospel groups. In the late 1940s
the Stamps Quartet had a popular recording of Farther Along on Columbia
Records (Columbia 20337). Interestingly, the Stamps had a later release of
Farther Along on Okeh Records (Okeh 04236) that had the words “Piano Acc.
Presley” on the label. The flip side was A Beautiful Prayer.
Elvis recorded Farther Along during the
How Great Thou Art
Session on May 27, 1966, at RCA’s Nashville Studios. During the
Million-Dollar-Quartet session on December 4, 1956, Elvis sang Farther Along
with vocal harmony provided by Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Lyrics:
(We'll understand it all by and by)
Tempted and tried we're oft' made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long
While there are others living about us
Never molested, though in the wrong
1. Farther along we'll know more about it
Farther along we'll understand why
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine
We'll understand it all by and by
When death has come and taken our loved ones
Leaving our homes so lonely and drear
Then do we wonder how others prosper
Living so wicked year after year
1. Repeat
