His Latest Flame

download

(Pomus / Schuman)

Information:
Elvis recorded (Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame on June 26, 1961, at RCA’s Nashville studios. At about the same time, Del Shannon recorded the song for his August 1961 album Runaway (Big Top 1303). Elvis’ single release had a 11-week stay on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, peaking at #4. In England it was number one for four weeks. (Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame sold over a million copies. The 1981 documentary This Is Elvis used the song to open the film.

(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman.

Lyrics:

A very old friend came by today
'Cause he was telling everyone in town
Of the love that he just found
And Marie's the name of his latest flame

He talked and talked and I heard him say
That she had the longest blackest hair
The prettiest green eyes anywhere
And Marie's the name of his latest flame

1. Though I smiled the tears inside were a-burning
I wished him luck and then he said goodbye
He was gone but still his words kept returning
What else was there for me to do but cry

2. Would you believe that yesterday
This girl was in my arms and swore to me
She'd be mine eternally
And Marie's the name of his latest flame

1. 2. (repeat)
And Marie's the name of his latest flame

Oh Marie's the name of his latest flame
