I'm Movin' On

(Snow)

Information:
I’m Movin’ On was written by Hank Snow in 1945, but not recorded by him until 1950 (RCA 0328). Steve Sholes of RCA didn’t want Snow to record the song. I’m Movin’ On had a total stay of 44 weeks on the country chart, reaching number one. Snow once recorded a follow-up record titled I’m Still Movin’ On (RCA 1068). In 1959 Ray Charles had a version of I’m Movin’ On (Atlantic 2043) that reached # 11 on the rhythm & blues chart. That same year Don Gibson reached # 14 on the country chart with his recording (RCA 47-7629).

Elvis recorded I’m Movin’ On on January 15, 1969, at American Sound Studios in Memphis. On October 14, 1980, Felton Jarvis recorded a new instrumental track at Young’un Sound in Nashville and released the new version on the Guitar Man LP.

Lyrics:

That big eight-wheeler runnin' down the track
Means your true lovin' daddy ain't a-comin' back
He's movin' on, he's rollin' on
You were flyin' too high for my little ol' skies and I'm movin' on

But some day baby when you've had you play
You're gonna want your daddy but your daddy will say
Keep movin' on, keep rollin' on
You were flyin' too high for my little ol' skies and I'm movin' on

Mr. Farmer, won't you, please, listen to me
'Cause I gotta pretty momma in Tennessee to keep rollin' on, keep movin' on,
Please, listen to me, let this rattler free and keep movin' on
Move on, son, move on

Well, I told you baby from time to time, but you just wouldn't listen and pay me no mind
And I'm movin' on, I'm rollin' on
I'm through with you, too bad you're blue, but I'm movin' along
Move on, baby, move on

I said move on, I said move on,
I said move on, I said move on,

I said move on, I said move on,
Well I'm through with you, too bad you're blue, 'cause I move on
I said move on, I said move on
I said move on, I said move on

Well I'm through with you, too bad you're blue, 'cause I move on

Hey, hey, I said move on, I said move on...
