Little Sister
download
(Pomus / Schuman)

Information:
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman wrote Little Sister for Elvis, who
recorded it on June 26, 1961, at RCA’s Nashville studios. His single release
spent a total of 13 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, reaching #5.
Sales exceeded one million copies. In England, Little Sister was number one
for four weeks. A few months after Little Sister was released, LaVern Baker
recorded Hey, Memphis (Atlantic 2119) as a takeoff on Elvis’s recording.
Hey, Memphis, which used the same music as Little Sister, was also written
by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. Elvis occasionally sang Little Sister in
concert in a medley with Get Back.
A rehearsal of Little Sister at MGM Culver City studios in
July 1970 was used in the documentary Elvis – That’s the Way It Is.
In 1988 Dwight Yoakam’s music video of Little Sister was
nominated for Top Country Video at the Country Music Association Awards.
Lyrics:
1. Little sister, don't you, little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you kiss me once or twice
Then say it's very nice and then you run
Little sister, don't you do what your big sister done
Well, I dated your big sister and
I took her to a show
I went for some candy
Along came Jim Dandy
And they snuck right out of the door
1. (repeat)
Ev'ry time I see your sister
Well, she's got somebody new
She's mean and she's evil like that little old Boll Weevil
Guess I'll try my luck with
you
1. (repeat)
Well, I used to pull your pigtails
And pinch your turned-up nose
But you been a-growin' and baby, it's been showin'
From your head down to your toes
1. (repeat)
Little sister, don't you do what your big sister done
Little sister, don't you do what your big sister done
