Arthur Crudup wrote and first recorded My Baby Left Me on November 8, 1950. His recording (RCA 130-284) did not chart.

Elvis recorded My Baby Left Me on January 30, 1956, at RCA’s New York City studios. His single release had a 14-weeks stay on Billboard’s Top 100 chart, peaking at #31. On the country best-seller chart, My Baby Left Me reached #13.
