Proud Mary (Forgety
Information: Proud Mary was written by John Forgety and recorded by Creedance Clearwater Revival (Fantasy 619) in 1969. Their recording sold over a million copies and reached #2 on the Hot 100 chart. Sonny Charles and the Checkmates, Ltd., also had a successful version (A&M 1127) in 1969, as did Solomon Burke (Bell 783). Ike and Tina Turner's 1971 recording of Proud Mary (Liberty 52616) reached #4 on the Hot 100 chart and became a million-seller.
Elvis performed a version of Proud Mary at the International Hotel in Las Vegas on February 17, 1970, that appeared on the LP On Stage - February, 1970. An April 1972 performance was included in the documentary Elvis On Tour.
