(Chase)

Information:
Such a Night was written by Lincoln Chase and
recorded by Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters (Atlantic 1019), whose
recording reached #5 on the rhythm & blues chart in 1954. Johnnie Ray's
recording of Such a Night (Columbia 40020) that same year was banned from
the air in some areas because of its suggestive lyrics. It reached number
one in England, however. Other recordings of Such a Night include those by
Bonnie Paul with Sy Oliver's Orchestra (Essex 352), Dinah Washington
(Mercury 70336), and Jane Turzy (Decca 29087), all in 1954; Vince Everett
(ABC Paramount 10313) in 1962, and Conway Twitty (ABC Paramount 10550).
Elvis recorded Such a Night on April 4, 1960,
at RCA's Nashville studios. Take #4 was selected for release. The single
release had an eight-week stay on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, reaching
a high of #16.
Lyrics:
It was a night, oo-oo, what a night, it was it really was such a night
The moon was bright, oh, how so bright, it was it
really was such a night
The night was alight with stars above
And when she kissed me I had to fall in love
Oh, it was a kiss, oo-oo, what a kiss, it was it
really was such a kiss
Oh, how she could kiss, oh, what a kiss, it was it
really was such a kiss
Just the thought of her lips sets me afire
I reminisce and I’m filled with desire
But I’d gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
1. Oh, that night, oo-oo, what a night , it was it
really was such a night
Came the dawn and my heart and her love and the
night was gone
But I’ll never forget the kiss, the kiss in the
moonlight
Oo-oo, such a kiss, such a night
1. (repeat)
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
That night, oo-oo, what a night, it was it really
was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
But I’d gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
Oh, that night, oo-oo, what a night, it was it
really was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
Well, she's gone, gone, gone, yeah, she's gone,
gone, gone
Came the dawn, dawn, dawn, and my love was gone
But before that dawn, yes, before that dawn and
before that dawn
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo,
oo-oo… such a night
