There's a Honky Tonk Angel

download

(Seals / Rice)

Information:

There's a Honky Tonk Angel (Who Will Take me Back In) was written by Troy Seals and Denny Rice and first recorded by Conway Twitty in late 1973. In 1974 Twitty's recording (MGM 40173) topped Billboard's country chart.

Shortly after Conway Twitty recorded There's a Honk Tonk Angel, Elvis went into Stax Studios in Memphis to record the song. The session took place on December 15, 1973. RCA released the song as a single in 1979. It reached #6 during its 13-week stay on the country chart.

Lyrics:

When was the last time you kissed me

And I don't mean a touch now and then
It's been a long time since you felt like my woman
Even longer since I felt like your man

1. So tell me if you think it's over
And I'll leave it up to you how it ends
'Cause if you don't want the love I can give you
Well, there's a honky tonk angel who'll take me back in

You never look at me and say "I love you"
How much more do you think I can stand
Oh, when there's an old friend out there and she's waiting
Lord, she's happy just holding my hand

1. (repeat)

Yes, there's a honky tonk angel who'll take me back in
