Information: Written by Layng Martine Jr., Way Down was recorded by Elvis at Graceland on the night of October 29-30, 1976. The bass voice heard on the recording is that of J.D. Sumner, who hit a double low C. Paired with Pledging My Love, Way Down replaced Charlie Rich's Rolling With the Flow at number one on Billboard's country chart, stayed there for one week, and was replaced at the top spot by Crystal Gayle's Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. Way Down had a 17-week stay on the chart. On the Hot 100 chart, the song peaked at #18 during its 21-week stay. A peak position on #14 was achieved on the Easy-Listening chart. In the United Kingdom, Way Down was Elvis's last number one single, with five weeks at the top spot. With Way Down Elvis tied the Beatles' British record of 17 number one singles. The RIAA certified the record as a million-seller on September 12, 1977. The following credits were listed on the record label: "Executive Producer: Elvis Presley; Associate Producer: Felton Jarvis."
