(Frazier / Owens)

Information:

Dallas Frazier and Al Owens wrote Where Did They Go Lord for Elvis, who recorded the song on September 22, 1970, at RCA's Hollywood studios. Elvis's single release had a seven-week stay on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, peaking at #33. It reached #55 on the country chart and #18 on the Easy-Listening chart. Some sources credit Where Did They Go Lord with selling a million copies.

Lyrics:

The words of her promise, t
he flame of her faith
The love that would never drift away
Where did they go Lord, where did they go

You know somehow forever slipped out of my hands
And my dreams ran away with the wind
Where did they go Lord, where did they go

You know sometimes I wish I had lost her to another
Well but Lord she just walked off all alone
The heart that's within me is not bitter, is just empty
And bewildered because her love is gone

The passion I trusted, the truth that I leaned on
And the hope that would forever keep me strong
I cry out my questions, oh, the answers are all gone
Where did they go Lord, tell me where did they go
Where did they go Lord, tell me where did they go
