You Asked Me To

download

(Shaver / Jennings)

Information:

You Asked Me To was written by Billy Joe Shaver and first recorded by Waylon Jennings (RCA APBO-0086) in 1973. His recording reached #8 on Billboard's country chart.

Elvis recorded You Asked Me To at Stax Studios in Memphis on December 11, 1973. Felton Jarvis took Elvis's vocal and added a new backing track at Nashville's Young'Un Sound on October 14, 1980. The recording was then released on the Guitar Man LP and as a single. You Asked Me To had a 15-week stay on the country chart, peaking at #8, as had Waylon Jennings's version seven years earlier.

Lyrics:

Long ago and far away

In my old common labour shoes
I turned the world all which-a-way
Just because you asked me to

Likened to no other feel
Summer love is simple true
There's no end to what I'd do
Just because you asked me to

1. Let the world call me a fool
But if things are right with me and you
That's all that matters and I'll do
Anything you ask me to

Knowing how much I love you
After all I've been through
I'd turn and walk away from you
Just because you asked me to

1. 1. 1. (repeat)
