Johnny Mercer e Rube Bloom escreveram Fools Rush In em 1940, com base na melodia Shangri-La de Bloom. A canção foi primeiro popularizada por Glenn Miller numa gravação pela etiqueta Bluebird (Bluebird 10728) que alcançou o 3º lugar nas tabelas em 1940. Nesse mesmo ano Frank Sinatra, juntamente com a Orquestra de Tommy Dorsey, gravou uma versão da canção (Victor 26593). Outras versões populares incluem versões de Brook Benton (Mercury 71722), cuja gravação foi um êxito Nº 5 de rhythm & blues em 1960; de Ricky Nelson (Decca 35133), que alcançou o 12º lugar na tabela Hot 100 em 1963; e Etta James (Ango 5424) em 1962. Elvis gravou Fools Rush In nos estúdios da RCA em Nashville em 18 de maio de 1971. O seu arranjo foi baseado no arranjo de Ricky Nelson (James Burton tocou guitarra tanto na gravação de Ricky Nelson como de Elvis).
