Gordon Lightfoot escreveu For Lovin' Me em 1964. Mais para o final desse ano, Peter, Paul and Mary fizeram a primeira gravação da canção (Warner Bros. 5496). Chegou à 30ª posição na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard. Lightfoot também decidiu gravar a sua própria canção em 1965 (Warner Bros. 5621). Waylong Jennings fez uma versão country (RCA 47-8917) em 1966.
