I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine foi escrita por Mack David em 1949 para o filme da Walt Disney, Cinderella. No entanto, não foi utilizada. Em 1950, várias versões da canção foram lançadas. Talvez a primeira tenha sido a de Patti Page (Mercury 5296). Seguiram-se outras versões, incluindo a de LeRoy Holmes (MGM 10685) e a de Dean Martin (Capitol 981). Em 1951 Georgia Gibbs teve uma versão popular de I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine pela Coral Records (Coral 60210).

Elvis gravou I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine em 10 de setembro de 1954, na Sun Records. Marion Keisker acrescentou um verso à versão de Elvis e Buddy Cunningham tocou bateria (na realidade, foi uma caixa de discos vazia). Nunca recebeu os créditos pela sessão.

Quando Elvis assinou com a RCA Records em novembro de 1955, a RCA relançou todos os seus cinco singles da Sun. Devido a ter sido lançada no EP Any Way You Want Me, I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine alcançou o 74º lugar no Top 100 da Billboard em outubro de 1956, ficando na tabela durante seis semanas.
