 It Hurts Me foi escrita por Joy Byers e Charlie Daniels, muito embora muitas etiquetas discográficas só atribuam crédito a Byers. Elvis gravou a canção em 12 de janeiro de 1964, nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. O lançamento em single alcançou o 29º lugar na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard durante a sua permanência de sete semanas. Elvis voltou a gravar It Hurts me para o segmento com Guitar man do seu especial televisivo de 1968, Elvis, mas a canção foi omitida do programa devido a falta de tempo. A faixa instrumental para essa gravação foi feita no Western Recorders em Hollywood, em 20 ou 21 de junho de 1968. A voz de Elvis foi gravada em 30 de junho na NBC. Uma mistura alternativa de It Hurts Me apareceu no LP pirata Eternal Elvis, bem como num single italiano de 45 RPM (N-1410). A orquestração e o apoio vocal dos Jordanaires a partir de um dos canais em estéreo foram omitidos, deixando apenas Elvis e o acompanhamento ao piano (por Floyd Cramer).
