Elvis gravou I Want You I Need You I Love You, que foi escrita por Maurice Mysels (o nome de Mysels foi erradamente escrito como “Myself” na capa do disco de 78 RPM e no fabrico dos primeiros discos de 45 RPM) e Ira Kosloff em 11 de abril de 1956, nos estúdios da RCA, em Nashville. Enquanto viajava de avião para Nashville, o avião de Elvis quase se despenhou. Supostamente, ele ficou tão abalado com experiência que só foi capaz de gravar uma canção e regressou para Memphis ao meio dia. As vozes de apoio foram disponibilizadas por Gordon Stocker, Ben Speer e Brock Speer. Marvin Hughes tocou piano. I Want You I Need You I Love You foi a única canção de Elvis em que Hughes tocou piano. O lançamento original foi uma montagem dos takes 14 e 17. I Want You I Need You I Love You teve uma permanência de 24 semanas na tabela Top 100 da Billboard, chegando ao 3º lugar. Chegou ao primeiro lugar, onde ficou durante duas semanas, na tabela Country Best-Selling. Na tabela Country Jukebox foi Nº 1 durante uma semana e chegou à 10ª posição na tabela de rhythm & blues. As vendas excederam o milhão de exemplares vendidos.

Elvis cantou I Want You I Need You I Love You no The Milton Berle Show (5 de junho de 1956) e no The Steve Allen Show (1 de julho de 1956). No programa de Berle, cantou uma vez a canção com a letra “I need you, I miss you, I want you”. Ambas as aparições contiveram os Jordanaires como vocalistas de apoio.

Em 1976 um take alternativo no qual Elvis rearranjou as letras surgiu no LP Elvis – A Legendary Performer, Volume 2.
