Loving Arms foi escrita por Tom Jans e gravada pela primeira vez por Dobie Gray em 1973. A sua gravação (MCA 40100) alcançou a 61ª posição na tabela Hot 100 da Billboard. Em 1974 Kris Kirstofferson e Rita Coolidge (A&M 1498) e Petula Clark (Dunhill 15019) fizeram gravações de Loving Arms.

Em 13 de Dezembro de 1973, Elvis gravou Loving Arms como Lovin’ Arms nos estúdios Stax de Memphis. Sete anos depois, em 17 de Outubro de 1980, Felton Jarvis orientou a gravação de uma nova faixa instrumental para um take alternativo da canção no Young ‘Un Sound, em Nashville. O lançamento em single daí resultante teve uma estadia de 15 semanas na tabela country da Billboard e chegou ao 8º lugar.
