download Informação: Shake Rattle and Roll foi escrita por Jesse Stone usando o pseudónimo Charles E. Calhoun e gravada pela primeira vez por Joe Turner (Atlantic 1026) em 1954. A gravação de Turner foi um êxito Nº 2 na tabela de rhythm and blues. Bill Haley and His Comets gravaram uma versão de Shake Rattle and Roll em 12 de abril de 1954 - no mesmo dia em que gravaram Rock Around the Clock. O lançamento de Haley (Decca 29204), que utilizou letras menos sugestivas, alcançou o 7º lugar na tabela Best-Selling Singles da Billboard e vendeu mais de um milhão de exemplares.
Elvis gravou Shake Rattle and Roll em 3 de fevereiro de 1956, nos estúdios da RCA em Nova Iorque. A sua versão reverteu mais para a letra de Turner, muito embora um dos versos da versão de Haley também tenha sido utilizado. O lançamento em single de Elvis não entrou para as tabelas. Em finais de 1956 Buddy Holly gravou Shake Rattle and Roll praticamente com a mesma letra que a utilizada na versão de Elvis, mas a sua só seria lançada em 1964, no seu LP Showcase.
Elvis cantou Shake Rattle and Roll (com um final de Flip Flop and Fly) na sua primeira apresentação no Stage Show, em 28 de janeiro de 1956. Também cantou a canção no The Milton Berle Show em 3 de abril de 1956. Um excerto filmográfico da apresentação no Stage Show foi utilizado no documentário de 1981, This Is Elvis. A bateria foi acrescentada posteriormente nesse excerto.
