(Ertegun)
Information:
Fool Fool Fool was written by Ahmet Ertegun, cofounder of
Atlantic Records in 1951. The Cloves had the first recording of the song the
same year. Fool Fool Fool (Atlantic 944) was a number one rhythm & blues
hit. Other hit recordings of the song through the years include those by Kay
Starr (Capitol 2151) in 1952, Dickie Lee and the Collegiates (Sun 297) in
1958, and Webb Pierce (Decca 32167), whose 1967 release reached #6 on the
country chart.
It’s been reported by some that Elvis recorded Fool Fool Fool
while at Sun Records. No proof of that has yet come forth.
Lyrics:
Fool, fool, fool
that I was to fall for you
Well, fool, fool, fool that I was to fall for you
Well, I what a fool I was
To think that you could love me, too
1. Well, well, when I first met you, baby,
Well, I knew I couldn't win,
But I just kept right on trying,
'Cause trying is no sin
2. What a fool, fool, fool,
That I was to fall for you
Well, I know what a fool I was
To think that you could love me, too
1.2. (repeat)
