Please don't Drag that String Around

download

(Blackwell / Scott)

Information:
Please don't Drag that String Around was written by Otis Blackwell and Winfield Scott. Elvis recorded the song on May 26, 1963, at RCA's Nashville studios. Although released as a single, Please don't Drag that String Around did not chart - one of Elvis's few sides in the pre-Beatles era that did not chart. Some sources have credited this song with sales of over a million copies. A few pressings of the single had Please don't Drag that String Along on the label instead of Around.

Lyrics:

You like to keep me dangling on a string
'Cause you know without you my life don't mean a thing

1. So I beg you, please don't drag that string around, oh no
Well, what if it should break (tell me) what would I do then
Keep that string up off the ground
Oh, yeah, remember my heart is tied to the other end

Yes, I’m your puppet, my heart is in your hand
One twist of the wrist and I jump to your command
1. (repeat)

I feel inside me, as sure as anything
One day I’ll mean more to you than a puppet on a string
1. (repeat)
