The Eyes of Texas

download

(Sinclair)

Information:

The Eyes of Texas was written by John L. Sinclair for a 1903 campus minstrel show based on the melody I've Been Working on the Railroad. It serves as the fight song of the University of Texas Longhorns. Also, every time a home run is hit in the Astrodome, the song is played.

Elvis recorded the medley The Yellow Rose of Texas / The Eyes of Texas in July 1963 at Radio Recorders for his 1964 film Viva Las Vegas. Fred Wise and Ben Weisman adapted the tunes for use in the film. The Eyes of Texas was sung by itself in the 1969 movie The Trouble With Girls.

Lyrics:

1. The eyes of Texas are upon you all the live long day
The eyes of Texas are upon you, you cannot get away
Do not think you can escape them at night or early in the morn
The eyes of Texas are upon you 'till Gabriel blows his horn

1. 1. (repeat)
