(unknown author)

Information:

The composer of this seventeenth century Christmas carol is unknown. The First Noel was first published in a collection of carols called Sandy's Carols in 1833.

Elvis recorded The First Noel on May 16, 1971, at RCA's Nashville studios.

Lyrics:

The first Noel the angels did say

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep

1. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the king of Israel

They looked up and saw a star

Shining in the East beyond them far

And to the Earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

1. 1. (repeat)
