Violet

download

(Tepper / Bennett)

Information:

Elvis sang Violet (Flower of N.Y.U.) in his 1969 movie The Trouble With Girls. The song, which lasted just 15 seconds, was sung to the tune of Aura Lee. The instrumental track was recorded at United Recorders in Hollywood on August 23, 1968. Elvis's vocal track was laid down later, perhaps on October 14 or 24. Until 1995 RCA had never released Violet, but until then it has appeared on numerous bootleg albums. On Behind Closed Doors bootleg, the complete lyrics are sung.

Lyrics:

Underneath the foliage, in its bower set

Loveliest of the flowers of spring
Blooms the violet

(Violet, violet, flower of N.Y.U.)

We will ever sing thy praise
To thee we'll ere be true
(We'll be true)
