Ready Teddy foi escrita por John Mascaralo e Robert (Bumps) Blackwell e originalmente gravada por Little Richard em 1956. A sua gravação (Specialty 579) chegou ao 44º lugar no Top 100 da Billboard e ao primeiro lugar da tabela de rhythm & blues.

Elvis gravou Ready Teddy em 3 de Setembro de 1956 no Radio Recorders. O take 27 foi o escolhido para lançar. Ready Teddy foi cantada na primeira apresentação de Elvis no Ed Sullivan Show (9 de Setembro de 1956) e provou ser uma das canções mais frequentemente cantadas nos anos 50.
