Ivory Joe Hunter wrote and recorded I Need You So (MGM 10663) in 1950. His recording was a # 2 hit on Billboard’s rhythm & blues chart.

On February 23, 1957, Elvis recorded I Need You So at Radio Recorders. Take # 8 was chosen by RCA for release.
